Dr.Vinod H. Shah completed his graduation in the year 1961 from B.J. Medical College, Ahemdabad under Gujarat University, after which he joined S.S.G.Hospital and Government Medical College, Baroda and did his Diploma in Otorhinology and went on to complete Masters in Otolaryngology from M.S.University in 1965. He then returned to his native town Surat and joined Surat General Charitable Hospital as a visiting E.N.T. Surgeon. Very soon he started his private practice as a Consulting E.N.T. Surgeon in December, 1965.

During his practice of last 54 years he has been a very busy E.N.T.Surgeon dealing with all kinds of routine ENT surgeries and emergencies with special interest in Paediatric Otolaryngology and Otology.

For training he has been to House Institute of Otology, Shambaugh’s Institute of Ear Surgery, Prof. Portman’s Clinic of Otology and Prof.Plester of Tubingen W.Germany.He also worked with Dr. V. S. Subramanian of Chennai and learnt Stapes Surgery. His main mentor has been Dr.D.M.Anklesaria of Bombay throughout his professional carrier.

At various State and National conferences he has presented his work and he has been honoured to deliver prestigious orations in memory of Prof.Dr.J.V.Desa, Dr.Narayan Dr.V.S.Subramanian,.

He was also invited to International Conference of Paediatric Otolaryngology Rotterdam Netherland in 1994 to deliver his work on Paediatric Endoscopy.

Amongst his many presentations his work has been published as monogram on Paediatric Endoscopy which has been popular amongst post graduate students.

He has been instrumental in organising many Courses, Live surgery workshops, State conferences and very first conference on Paediatric Otolaryngology in the country. He was elected as President of The Association of Otolaryngologists of India in year 1999. This rare honour came to him as first from Gujarat in the history of 50 years of the National Association.

He was awarded ‘Fellow of American College of Surgeons” in year 1985 by then Board of Regeants appreciating his high ethical standards and his surgical experience.

He has been the founder of South Gujarat Academy of Otolaryngology to pursue academic activities.

He has edited “Review Of Otolaryngology 2000’ the publication to commemorate the Millennium year 2000 consisting articles on various subjects of Otorhinolaryngology by the celebrated and renowned ENT surgeons of India.

He has been compiling a regular column popularly known as “Reader’s Forum” in Indian Journal of Otolaryngology Since last 15 years covering day to day problems of practising Otolaryngologists.

On social service scene he has been a Founder Trustee of Muk Badhir Trust which runs a school for Deaf children since last forty two years, Surat Raktadan Kendra and Research Centre which runs a Voluntary Blood Bank and Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine since last thirty years, Chinmaya Seva Trust which spreads the spiritual message of Bhagwad Geeta. He has served Rotary International as past president of a local Rotary Club and Team Leader of its Group Study Exchange Team to Israel.

He has been a founder of Chinmaya Public Charitable Trust which takes care of Cochlear Implant Recipients and their Rehabilitation.

He writes poetry in a local vernacular language and published its collection in the name of “Kashuk Liluchham” “ Mari Bhitar” and is currently work on a book in clinical ENT disorders.
