Shruti hospital provides facilities for neonatal and infant hearing screening. Even a new born child can be assessed for hearing by a special test called Oto Acoustic Emissions (OAE). Children who do not pass this test are later subjected to more elaborate tests of hearing. OAE test is non-invasive, easy to perform and takes only a few minutes. Various pediatric and gynaecological hospitals have now associated themselves with us to enable screening all newborns. This would go a long way in treating deafness because we at Shruti hospital firmly believe that early detection of deafness is pivotal in managing such children.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends hearing screenings for all newborns. The goal is for all babies to have a newborn hearing screening by one month of age, ideally before they go home from the hospital; identified by 3 months of age and enrolled in early intervention or treatment, if identified as deaf or hard of hearing, by the age of 6 months.
In order to achieve universal new born screening for all , Shruti ENT hospital launched a new program called the Shravan Shruti in 2019 to be able to able to provide this test at a very nominal rate.
